Northern Ireland Children's Friendship Project Mural, sponsored by the US State Department, Belfast, Northern Ireland, 2000. "In rememberance of stories untold and the healing yet to come" mural for the CDC National Sexual Violence Prevention Conference in Dallas, Texas. The Break the Silence mural during the XIII International AIDS Conference will be held in Durban, South Africa Hasta Cuando? (Philadelphia): A Mother's Day mural created jointly with youths and residents from a primarily Puerto Rican barrio in Northern Philadelphia, Pennsylvania MADD in the Capitol (Washington, D.C.): MADD National Youth Summit--a mural about underage drinking and driving collaboratively created with youth from the 435 Congressional Districts and dignitaries. Compartiendo con Bolivia (La Paz): A special art exhibit and mural creating project sponsored by Arts America, the United States Information Service, the Unites States Embassy in La Paz . Bridging the Gap (Geneva): a collaborative mural created by the participants of the United Nation's 12th World AIDS Conference in Geneva, during July 1998.
Master-Peace 2000 (Miami): Miami artist Xavier Cortada will be working with ten high schools during the 1999-2000 academic year to create ten murals commemorating the millennium's past ten centuries. The Internet-based project utilizes the artist's WebStudio to create collaborative murals exploring lessons humanity has learned during the last 1000 years.
Xavier Cortada has worked with diverse community groups across four continents to create pro-social art projects. Cortada, an attorney and community leader, combines his artistic talent with his concern for social and political issues. Among the topics he has explored through his work are community development, racism, violence, poverty, political freedom, AIDS, and Cuba.
