¡CELEBRA LIBERTAD!

Featuring Xavier Cortada's painting on the actual Russian Antonov-2 Colt airplane that brought a family from Cuba to the United States.

Cortada will also present 45 pieces of luggage numbered sequentially from 1959 to 2004, representing each year the Cuban community has been in exile.  Each piece will include letters from exiles describing what they left behind in Cuba and what they found when they arrived here.

County Hall Mural

Miami artist Xavier Cortada  an art piece about "Our Community" to be installed in the foyer at the entrance of the County Commission chambers and offices.  The project will include the creation of a 6' x 18' mural and digital installation of messages collected from residents in every commission district. 

The mural is a project of the Miami-Dade Community Relations Board in partnership with Miami-Dade Art in Public Places and the Board of County Commissioners.

 

 

 

Xavier Cortada will create the official Voices 2004 collaborative mural during the May 22- 25 conference in Washington, D.C.
 
 

"The Coexistence Mural"

Miami artist Xavier Cortada incorporated messages from  participants of two NCCJ Leadership Seminars, From Coexistence to Community and Artists Speak Out, to create this collaborative mural.  The seminars were part of the Coexistence Miami project.

Xavier Cortada has exhibited his works in museums, galleries, and cultural venues around the world and has pioneered the use of the Internet in collaborative art-making. The Miami-based Cuban-American artist, attorney, and activist has worked collaboratively with diverse groups across the United States, Latin America, Europe and Africa to create pro-social community murals and participant-driven art projects.
