DOWNTOWN MIAMI SITE Miami Mangrove Forest a volunteer-driven public art project  designed by   Xavier Cortada and presented by Hands on Miami  November 6, 2004 Miami, Florida      Project Main  | About  |  Media  | Statement Sites Downtown |  Little Havana  | Allapattah     Downtown I-395 Underpass at Biscayne Blvd 60 Columns Using 8 foot by 4 foot stencils designed by the artist, Hands on Miami Volunteers will draw three mangrove seedlings on each of the underpass' columns.  Each column's seedlings will be painted with one of 18 predetermined colors, the areas surrounding it to look appear as sea and sky.  To see studies of seedlings click on: magenta, red, orange, yellow, green, and violet. Students from Miami International University of Art and Design will then return to the site with black paint and reproduce images uniquely designed by Xavier Cortada for each and every seedling.   Local artist Xavier Cortada painting underneath the I-395 overpass on Biscayne as part of the Miami Mangrove Forest.   Photo: NATALE E.
