DETAILS:

Bring your note pad and your dancing shoes and get ready to party at the mural unveiling celebration. Hands On Miami, with funding from the Dade Community Foundation, has coordinated the creation of an intercultural mural. Senior citizens from the Little Havana Activities and Nutrition Centers and the Haitian American Foundation worked together to craft the mural. It is based upon the similarities of the Cuban and Haitian experience, both in their homeland and in Miami, and focuses on the similarities between each immigrant group. The mural is a collaborative effort facilitated by Miami artist Xavier Cortada, and includes a collage of drawings, writings, photos and cultural symbols important to the elderly participants.  Students from Miami Coral Park High School served as Creole and Spanish translators.
