Memo: PEOPLE IN THE ARTS

Off to Italy

Does Miami artist Xavier Cortada have a magic touch or what? On Thursday and Friday he will be one of 600 artists and cultural figures from around the world at the Vatican to reflect on the Catholic Church's Jubilee Year.

Then on March 1, he'll be in Washington to receive the prestigious Millennium International Volunteer Award from the U.S. Department of State & USA Today in recognition of his collaborative art projects on four continents during the past decade. Cortada currently has two shows in Miami.

Imago, Imaginis, an exhibit on religious themes, is at the Art Atrium Gallery in St. Thomas University in North Dade through March 8; and Compartiendo, a display aimed at drug and violence prevention, is at the ground level of Casa Grande (across from the Brickell Metrorail Station), Miami.
