Millennium International Volunteer Award presentation to Xavier Cortada by U.S. Department of State and USA Today on March 1, 2000 at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.  A panel of representatives from the international education and cultural exhange community selected 30 winners, including President Jimmy Carter and Cortada, who receives the award in recognition for his collaborative art projects on four continents during the past decade.

Neighborhood


The competition for the International Volunteer Awards, part of the U.S. State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs' Millennium Projects, closed on November 1, 1999.

We received a considerable number of outstanding applications that are currently being reviewed and prepared for final judging. Final judging will take place in early January, 2000, by a panel of representatives from the international educational and cultural
exchange community.

The winners will be announced in late January, 2000, and also posted on this website.
