OMNIART-Miami the urban art exhibition that has been regarded as one of

the must-see listed events of Art-Basel Miami Beach, returns for a third time

Friday, December 2 within several city blocks that converge at Northeast 13

Street and Northeast First Court – one block west of the Miami Performing Arts

Center.

 

OMNIART-Miami, produced by the Miart Foundation, is the major Art Basel

Miami Beach event sponsored by the City of Miami. OMNIART-Miami intends

to highlight the work of Miami artists, art schools and faculty alongside

internationally renowned artists.

 

This year, OMNIART-Miami takes place in two warehouses and several vacant

lots along the Omni corridor, converging at Northeast 13 Street and First

Court.

 

Powerful works by Latin American, European and Asian artists, curated by

Julia Herzberg of New York, form a significant component of this exciting

urban art encounter. General curators Tina Spiro and Dr. Carol Damian of

Florida International University have included new works and existing projects

by Miami and visiting artists.

 

Kaarina Kaikkonen of Finland returns to OMNIART -Miami with a space-spanning

installation made of toilet paper. Helga Griffiths of Germany weighs

in with a spectacular installation that incorporates scent and sound. Video

artist Tori Arpad presents a new work recently filmed in the Utah Salt Flats; and

Tina Spiro exhibits her most recent installation Mayaimi based on the Miami

circle. Sandra Bermudez presents a major outdoor installation consisting of

350 vinyl balloons and video fireworks.

OMNIART-Miami III commences on Friday, December 2 at 8:30 p.m. with a

traditional Haitian Rara Road March, leading visitors from the Miami

Performing Arts Center at Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast 13 Street one

block west to the site of the OMNIART-Miami III exhibitions. Official

OMNIART-Miami hours are Friday, December 2 from 8:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.;

Saturday, December 3 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and Sunday, December 4

Xavier Cortada was born in Albany, New York and was raised and lives in Miami. The Cuban-American artist holds three degrees from the University of Miami. His work has been shown across four continents and is in the permanent collection of The World Bank. Cortada has been commissioned to create art for government agencies (the White House, Miami City Hall), cultural institutions (Miami Art Museum, Museum of Florida History) and corporations (Nike, Heineken). Major collaborative art projects include International AIDS murals in Switzerland and South Africa, peace murals in Northern Ireland and Cyprus and child welfare murals in Bolivia and Panama.
